Windsor El Camino Care Center Volunteers Help Sacramento Needy

Windsor El Camino Care Center teams up with Making a Change Sacramento to deliver food and clothing to homeless in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Employees and volunteers from Windsor El Camino Care Center, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located in Carmichael, California teamed up with Making a Change Sacramento, a local non-profit organization, to help Sacramento's homeless and needy.

Windsor El Camino volunteers assisted Making a Change Sacramento by serving prepared breakfast burritos, bagels, pancakes and cereal to the needy in Carmichael Park. Additionally, El Camino staff had previously set up donation boxes in the front lobby in which staff, residents and visitors could donate clothing and food. Residents at the facility volunteered to sort and pack the clothing by size, and assembled hygiene bags. The clothing and hygiene bags were distributed at the event, while the food will be distributed to a local food pantry.

"We were so appreciative that the folks at Windsor El Camino participated in this special event," says Making a Change Sacramento president Shaunda Henry. "They are all wonderful people with great hearts, and we hope to work with their volunteers again in the future."

Windsor El Camino employees and residents volunteer monthly with a variety of charitable events and organizations, particularly helping the homeless and the needy.

Jeanne Laguna, the Director of Nursing at Windsor El Camino, organized the event. "My goal was to bring together two populations, the homeless and the elderly, in a way that would benefit them both," says Laguna. "Aside from the homeless receiving food, clothing and personal items, they gained a sense of belonging and realized that there are people that love and care about them.  The residents have gained a sense of purpose knowing they are a part of giving back to people in need and they are looking forward to more opportunities to help."
