HOUSTON, Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- EMEX, LLC, a leading firm providing energy procurement-based risk management services in the deregulated regions of the United States, announced it has helped the Village of Glen Carbon, Illinois - ranked one of the 100 best places to live according to CNN Money Magazine in 2009 -obtain a lower rate for its electricity. The Village of Glen Carbon, which serves close to 13,000 community members, successfully procured a lower rate for the approximately 2 million kWh of electricity it consumes annually for its city-owned buildings including the historic Yanda Log Cabin, streetlights, and traffic lights.
This historically rich southwestern Illinois municipality, established in 1892, spends approximately $113,000 per year on electricity to keep the city operating and growing. Through a series of online auctions run on the EMEX® Reverse Auction Platform, the Village of Glen Carbon attracted 7 suppliers, who over the course of minutes submitted 34 bids. The auctions resulted in a 60 month contract starting November 2013. The electricity contract is expected to save the Village more than $48,000 over the term of the contract.
Mayor Robert Jackstadt for the Village of Glen Carbon commented, "Our EMEX Reverse Auction made lowering Glen Carbon's energy rate one of the easiest and quickest ways for us to maximize savings. It was exciting to watch 7 top notch suppliers bid on our village's energy and then pick the rate and term we wanted to lock-in."
