WASHINGTON, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Many metro Washington, DC area residents are preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving compassionately, healthfully, and sustainably through meat-free celebrations. With Thanksgiving Day approaching, the Vegetarian Society of DC (VSDC) reminds the public that it is hosting the largest all-vegetarian celebration in the area. The Life-Affirming Thanksgiving Celebration organized by VSDC is a positive and welcoming event that offers an all-vegan feast to delight the palate of vegans, vegetarians and even those not vegetarian.
All attendees will enjoy a healthy yet appetizing gourmet Thanksgiving Day meal. The celebration's keynote speaker is Milton Mills,MD, Associate Director of Preventive Medicine for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, practicing Critical Care physician at two metro DC area hospitals, international speaker, and co-author of Racial and Ethnic Bias in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines.
The event will include live musical entertainment and local, non-profit exhibitors offering information about a healthy and compassionate way of life.
The programming also includes exciting door prizes and a silent auction fundraiser. National and local companies and stores have made donations for door prizes and silent auction items. For example, everyone will leave with vegan chocolates from Rose City Chocolates. Someone will walk away with a Vita-Mix, others will leave with gift certificates, while still others will be enjoying the Bamboo cutting board, Tofurky Lunch Box filled with goodies, a one-night free stay from Hyatt, just to name a few things.

VSDC has hosted this annual festive Thanksgiving Day celebration for between 250-300 individuals and families for over 30 years.
