The World's Leading Ski and Snowsports Organizations support the Starting Dot Community-Based .ski New gTLD Application

Community-Based .ski New gTLD Application Hailed by Ski and Snowsports Community as the Clear Choice for an Innovative, Safe and Sustainable Online Future.

NEW YORK and PARIS, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- STARTING DOT today announced that it has received overwhelming support for its community-designated .ski (dot ski) top-level domain from The International Ski Federation (FIS) during the public comment period for the new gTLD program started by the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The International Ski Federation (FIS) is the governing body for international skiing and snowboarding, founded in 1924 during the first Olympic Games in Chamonix, France. Recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), FIS manages the Olympic disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding, including setting the international competition rules. Through its 115 member nations, more than 6,500 FIS ski and snowboard competitions are staged annually.

A core mission of FIS is to undertake specific initiatives to promote snow activities as a healthy leisure recreation, notably for the young. The Starting Dot community-based application for .ski represents how the new gTLD program started by ICANN can directly increase the awareness and promote snow activities through new internet channels in safe and trusted environments. The endorsement of .ski by FIS is a clear sign that a commitment to snow activities and a collaborative, community-designated model is the right direction for the global ski and snowsports community.

As the umbrella organization for competitive skiing and snowboarding, FIS intends to partner and work closely with Starting Dot and other members of the .ski Policy Advisory Committee in tight cooperation with the community to protect brands and names for the benefit of the community. Starting Dot will also participate and support initiatives by FIS to promote snow activities.

"The support of FIS demonstrates unequivocally that the Starting Dot community-designated application for .ski is the official application for the ski and snowsports community. We're truly excited about working with FIS and its member national ski associations to bring .ski to the community for the benefit of all ski enthusiasts," says Starting Dot CEO, Godefroy Jordan.

FIS' support of .ski adds to a long list of global community supporting members for the Starting Dot .ski community-designated application that includes organizations such as The US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), Alpine Canada, The Canadian Snowsports Association, France Montagnes, Federation Francaise de Ski (FFS) and many others. Starting Dot is also involved with the wider ski and snowsports communities through membership of organizations such as Snowsports Industries America and supporting young professionals during the coming seasons.

The ski sports community will be able to begin securing web addresses with the .SKI domain  name extensions in 2013 and Starting Dot is encouraging all those interested in .SKI to contact  them via its official website form at  Stay up to date with the latest news from .SKI at
