The resort's director of engineering, John Traynor sat down for a Q&A:

What was the scope of the project?

"We replaced 7,000 square feet of sod in April 2014 at a cost of $8.50 per square feet."

What is the product made of?

"The lawn is made using recycled materials and is fully recyclable at the end of its life."

What is the projected water consumption savings annually?

"This installation results in a reduction of 15,000 gallons per year in irrigation on site, not to mention the needs of the sod farm."

Do you see any other benefits?

"Yes, this product reduces erosion and improves draining capabilities to traditional lawns. No pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers are needed and there is a reduction in gas omissions since we don't have to mow it."

What has the guest response been to date?

"The Feedback on the new lawn has been overwhelmingly positive. People really enjoy the feel,  the consistent  coloration and have even taken their shoes off to walk barefoot through the 'lush lawn.'"

Are there any more plans to put more Heavenly Grass in?
"We do anticipate incorporating more conversions throughout our seven acre campus."

"We're very proud of our TripAdvisor Green Leader designation," shares Traynor. "This initiative is just one example of our continued effort to help protect Northern California and specifically, Sonoma Valley."
