The Top 5 List of 8 Passenger Vehicles

According to, if you need to buy a new car that can carry at least eight people, there are a few vehicles that shine brighter than the rest.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- If you need a new 8 passenger vehicle, your options are pretty limited. It's not a very crowded class, but nonetheless there are several vehicles that have managed to separate themselves from the pack in terms of quality.

There are really only a few types of vehicles that you can fit eight people into, not including school buses of course. There are mini vans, full size passenger vans, crossover SUVs and full size SUVs that can meet your eight passenger needs.

Best buy for eight seats

Here are our top five recommended new car deals for eight passenger vehicles and their starting MSRP:

The Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia are twin vehicles, both assembled by GM. They are larger crossover SUVs, and they are more spacious on the inside than the competition. Even with their large size, their car-like underbody gives each vehicle great handling on the road.

Mechanically, the Traverse and Acadia are pretty much the exact same vehicle, right down to the 288 horsepower 3.6L v6 engine. However, they do differ in styling, pricing and options. The Traverse has a more family car type of feeling to it, while the Acadia comes off a bit more stylish and luxurious, especially its striking Denali trim. They get solid gas mileage for the class, with 17 city / 24 hwy mpg.

The Honda Pilot is another solid option in the same class. It gets 18 city / 25 hwy mpg from its base 3.5L v6 engine, but the interior is not quite as spacious as the Traverse or Acadia. Its third row seat has plenty of room for adult passengers, however.

The Pilot is a good choice for reliable, affordable and comfortable family transportation. It also benefits from Honda's stellar reputation and retains a lot of its value over time.

If you need to haul eight people and tow a lot at the same time, you might want to consider something a little bigger and stronger than these three crossover SUVs. If you need a full size SUV, it's hard not to recommend the Toyota Sequoia.

The Sequoia offers a great balance of capability, reliability and comfort. It can't pull as much as the Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon, but with its fully equipped 5.7L v8 it gets 381 horsepower, 401 lbs-ft of torque and can pull 7,400 lbs. It also has a very large, very comfortable and very well equipped interior.

It just wouldn't be right to talk about eight passenger family vehicles and not recommend a minivan. Although mini vans are not nearly as popular as they once were, the Honda Odyssey is still a great choice if the thought of driving a minivan isn't offensive to you.

The Odyssey delivers on every aspect that is important to family transportation; reliability, safety, high fuel economy and comfortable interior. It also holds its resale value better than the competition. However, it can get expensive when you start moving your way up the trim levels.

Weighing your options

Choosing the best eight passenger vehicle for your situation will all depend on what other priorities you have. There are multiple options open to you, so make sure you take your time and find which one will work the best for you.
