Trends in US Textile and Clothing Imports, April 2013 edition

This 2013 update contains analysis and insight into the USA's top ten foreign suppliers of textiles and clothing in 2012, along with more specific information on cotton coats, wool coats, cotton dresses, cotton knitted shirts, cotton woven shirts, cotton skirts, man-made fibre skirts, cotton trousers, blue denim trousers, cotton and man-made fibre baby garments, cotton pile towels, and other cotton apparel. The report also includes appendices containing information and data on exchange rates, the effect of quota liberalisation on US imports, the impact of China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and historical trends in US imports, as well as an outlook for 2013 and beyond.

World Textile and Apparel Trade and Production Trends: the EU, April 2013 edition

EU textile and clothing exports to countries outside the EU increased in 2012. However, textile and clothing production declined during the year, having also fallen in the previous year. Imports of textiles and clothing into the EU fell too as the eurozone crisis led to lingering uncertainty and weaker demand in the aftermath of the global recession. The average price of EU textile imports declined in 2012 whereas the average price of EU clothing imports rose following an increase in the previous year. Furthermore, there were increases in the average prices of imports from 19 of the 20 leading clothing supplying countries. This report presents a wealth of information and is essential for anyone who is considering sourcing from, selling to or investing in the EU and its leading supplying countries and export markets.

Prospects for the Textile and Clothing Industry in Cambodia

The clothing industry in Cambodia has seen a rise in exports and by 2012 combined exports of textiles and clothing represented about 60% of Cambodia's total exports. Almost all of the impetus behind the sector's expansion has come from foreign investment, attracted by government incentives and a favourable investment climate. As a result, about 90% of clothing factories are under the ownership and control of foreign investors based in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and the USA. On the downside, the clothing industry is limited mainly to low added value cut, make and trim (CMT) operations and lacks design and marketing skills. Also, it is heavily dependent on imports for its raw materials as the textile industry in Cambodia is small and lacks investment.

Costs of Spinning, Texturing, Weaving and Knitting Production in Nine Countries, April 2013 edition

This report examines and compares textile production costs in 2012 in the spinning, texturing, weaving and knitting sectors in nine countries -- namely Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Italy, South Korea, Turkey and the USA. Costs examined include raw material and manufacturing costs, as well as the costs of producing ring spun yarn, rotor spun yarn, textured yarn, and woven and knitted fabric made from each of these yarn types.

Survey of the European Yarn Fairs for Spring / Summer 2014

The latest update in this series of reports summarizes the trends which were on show at the European yarn fairs for the spring/summer 2014 season. The author of the report visited Filo, Pitti Immagine Filati and Expofil where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends were proving to be the most popular. Despite a backdrop of difficult trading conditions, the overall atmosphere at the fairs was one of optimism and hope. Demand for luxury fabrics is holding up well, particularly among buyers from the USA and China. European mills have been developing new and advanced products, and yarns have become even finer, lighter and smoother. Different fibres are being combined in blends and twists to produce yarns with a totally new kind of handle and appearance. Continuing demand for sustainable products is encouraging the use of eco-friendly and sustainable raw materials. In addition to the technical creativity which is evident, colours are lively and fresh and designed to lift the spirits.
