SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Florida-based blues and roots rock band Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones headlined the Stearns Square Summer Concert series on Aug. 21 as part of the City of Springfield's summer-long concert series that runs through the end of August.
The Stearns Square Summer Concert series takes place on Thursday nights in downtown Springfield's historic Stearns Square. The square serves as the hub of the city's entertainment district and vibrant Club Quarter.
The square is centrally located between Worthington Street and Bridge Street.
Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones hails from Florida's Gulf Coast and made the downtown Springfield show part of a summer tour that included stops at the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest, North Carolina's Brevard Blues Fest, and the Vache de Blues Fest in Villerupt, France.
The band is touring in support of its most recent release "What's It Gonna Take."
Springfield's long-running annual concert series began as CityBlock in the summer of 2000 when the city closed off part of Main Street in downtown Springfield and made an outdoor, festival-type setting for live concerts.
The following year the series moved to Stearns Square in an effort to highlight the Club Quarter's eclectic mix of restaurants, nightclubs, office space, and market-rate housing.
This season the concert series has brought in regional and national acts like The Spin Doctors, John Eddie, and Roomful of Blues. The series culminates with an Aug. 28 performance by The Smithereens.
The concerts are free and open to the public and the music begins at 8 p.m.
The Stearns Square Summer Concert Series is produced by the Springfield Business Improvement District. For more information in the concerts and events going on in downtown Springfield, visit www.springfielddowntown.com.
