Stanton Optical Encourages Patients to Get Their Eyes Tested on World Sight Day

Florida based eyeglass store promotes the importance of regular eye exams to all their current and new customers.

PALM SPRINGS, Fla., Aug. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Optical store Stanton Optical encourages everyone to visit one of their stores on World Sight Day for a routine eye exam. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) designates the 2nd Thursday in October as World Sight Day.

This year the day, which is part of the Vision 2020 global initiative for the elimination of avoidable blindness, occurs on Thursday, October 10th. World Sight Day is part of a larger fundraising challenge taking place from September 1st through October 10th. The World Sight Day Challenge is billed as the largest annual global fundraising campaign.

Where Do the Fundraising Dollars Go

The challenge helps raise funds to end visual impairment and blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error. These vision problems can often be corrected by a simple eye examination and pair of prescription eyeglasses.

Visual Impairment Facts

  • 180 million people worldwide live with low vision and blindness
  • 90% of blind people live in low-income countries
  • 80% of visual impairment is treatable and/or preventable
  • 19 million children are visually impaired

Where do the donations raised during the World Sight Day challenge go?

85% of donations get distributed directly to eye and vision care projects in 38 countries which help:

  • provide basic eye care services to over 4 million people
  • train over 2,600 eye care professionals
  • help set up over 100 vision centers

Get an Eye Examination

World Sight Day 2013 has a special message and call to action: universal eye health through a routine eye exam. The program is supported by eye health organizations such as Optometry Giving Sight with the motto "transforming lives through the gift of vision."

Stanton Optical encourages all their patients that currently wear glasses to come in for an annual eye exam. That way their eye doctor can check the person's vision and make sure they don't need to change their glasses to a different prescription. And new customers can visit any of the eyeglass store locations for a comprehensive eye examination by a board-certified optometrist.

Doctors of optometry can also detect vision problems such as glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. Customers can visit a Stanton Optical near them to schedule their next eye examination and shop for great styles of prescription eyeglasses. Each of their stores has many great frames to select from including men's glasses, women's eyeglasses and children's glasses.
