HiSilicon Set-Top Box Customers Can Leverage Commercially Licensed TEE Software for DRM

Sierraware, a leading provider of real-time and secure hypervisors for embedded processors, today announced that it has partnered with HiSilicon to provide its leading SierraTEE Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) software to HiSilicon Multimedia processors. Now, equipment manufacturers developing set-top boxes with HiSilicon processors can protect their sensitive applications and data, including Digital Rights Managed (DRM) videos, with SierraTEE.
HiSilicon multimedia processors offer a complete chipset portfolio for global DTV standards while delivering low power consumption. Powering converged set-top boxes, HiSilicon ASICs offer a smart and secure, integrated solution. By partnering with Sierraware, HiSilicon provides a ready-to-use, commercially licensed TEE that is ported, tested, and certified for HiSilicon platforms.
SierraTEE leverages ARM® TrustZone® hardware security extensions to run a secure operating system and a normal—or high-level—operating system at the same time. The SierraTEE software protects confidential data like encryption keys, payment card data, integrity management software and DRM-protected content from malicious attacks and malware.
SierraTEE adheres to the GlobalPlatform TEE specification and the software been designed for a wide range of products that require secure virtualization, such as micro-servers for cloud computing, smart mobile phones, smart TVs, and headless residential gateways. The commercially-licensed SierraTEE software for HiSilicon features:
- Secure Boot and Virtual UART support
- A Dynamic application loader that can load third party applications at run time
- Full POSIX-compliant libc, task isolation and a multitasking kernel
