BELLEVUE, Wash., July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Pulsair Systems, a supplier of the fastest and most energy efficient potable water mixing systems, today announced that the company's mixing systems are now National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Certified. Pulsair's stainless steel sanitary mixing equipment was tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 and are now approved for installation in all sizes o fpotable water storage tanks and water reservoirs.
Pulsair's energy efficient potable water mixing process helps water district operators completely mix water storage tanks in a matter of minutes to improve water quality, reduce thermal stratification, protect against total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAA5s), and nitrification buildup to achieve uniform water temperature and reduce ice formation.
NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit organization that is widely recognized for its scientific and technical expertise in the health and environmental sciences. Receiving NSF Certification is a significant achievement, as drinking water standards in the United States are among the strictest in the world.
"NSF Certification is important for us because it enables us to assure our water utility customers that the Pulsair sanitary mixing process for potable drinking water is ready for widespread deployment in municipal drinking water systems," said Dick Parks, president of Pulsair Systems. "NSF is recognized by leading water agencies throughout the world. We are extremely excited that we can now offer the system on a global basis to water agencies seeking ways to deliver clean drinking water on a consistent basis, reduce energy costs, and lower carbon emissions. With increasing demands for cleaner water, it's clear that municipalities and drinking water management organizations around the world need water tank mixing solutions that quickly address issues that can arise in ground water storage tanks, standpipes, and elevated spheres. The Pulsair potable water mixing process will help water agencies achieve compliance for the EPA Stage 2 D/DBP Rule by eliminating thermal stratification, reducing nitrification, protecting against total trihalomethanes (TTHMs), and protecting against ice formation. An additional key benefit of the Pulsair active water tank mixing process is that it can be retrofitted in existing water tanks and reservoirs without their being taken offline."
As more water utilities include active mixing in their potable water storage facilities to improve water quality, they are also concerned about quickly responding to unforeseen water quality issues that may arise. For example, water districts can no longer afford to wait up to a week for a million-gallon water tank to be completely turned over if an emergency disinfectant dosing and boosting is required. With the Pulsair mixing process, water utilities can completely turn over large water tanks, regardless of their size or shape, in a matter of minutes. Additionally, Pulsair can help water utilities keep capital, operational and maintenance expenses low by offering a lower cost active mixing system that requires low operational energy consumption and zero maintenance inside the water tank or reservoir.
The Pulsair potable water mixing process works by intermittently releasing bursts of clean, filtered compressed air through a series of strategically placed stainless steel accumulator plates at the bottom of potable water storage tanks or reservoirs. The rising air bubbles create an immediate vertical circulation pattern in the tank allowing 100 percent of the water in the tank to be uniformly mixed in a matter of minutes. This fast and energy efficient mixing process pushes and pulls water up into the tank and breaks up stagnant water layers to prevent the formation of thermoclines and helps reduce nitrification.
