LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Grapefruit Diet, The Acai Berry Diet, The Blood Type Diet–I've even tried the Beer Lover's Diet (yes, it's out there!). Name me any fad diet, and I guarantee you I've tried it. If I lost weight on any of these diets, the loss was minimal–and temporary. The weight always came right back as soon as I started eating anything other than grapefruit (or cabbage soup, or celery, or acai berries, or beer). And sometimes I gained back even more than I'd lost in the first place.
So, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the Pro ana Diet isn't another fad: it actually works. I have to admit, I didn't expect it to; my weight had been on a roller coaster for so long that I couldn't have even told you why I kept dieting! But I'm really glad I did, because I've been on the Proana Diet for over a year now, and I am at my lowest (and healthiest) weight ever!
That's because the Proana Diet doesn't make false promises, and it doesn't restrict the kinds of foods you consume. Sure, some foods are healthier and better-suited to weight loss than others, and the Proana Diet will help you make smart choices. But proana and thinspo are all about facts–not fads. And the fact is, if you want to lose weight, you have to exercise, and you have to count (and cut!) calories.
Growing up, I always hated math, but counting calories is math I've learned to love. It's really not that hard–I promise! All you need to do is some basic addition and subtraction. I keep a food journal on my phone, but you can go low-tech if that suits your personal style. (One of my friends, who has also lost a bunch of weight on the Proana Diet, keeps a tiny marbled notebook and a pencil stub in her purse. I get to tease her about scribbling notes in public, but she looks fantastic, so who cares?!?)
It doesn't matter how you do it–simply that you do it. Counting calories is one of the smartest moves you can make, in more ways than one. The simple act of writing down every single calorie that you consume–and knowing that you have to add them up at the end of the day in order to anticipate any changes to your waistline–will keep you on track. Plus, knowing the caloric and nutritional value of what you put in your mouth is empowering! It will enable you to make healthy choices all day long. And, at the end of the day, that's what the Pro ana Diet is all about!
