LAWRENCE, Kan., Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Chrysler Group has introduced its new Pentastar 3.6L V-6 as the powerful and efficient replacement for aging V-6's across the group's vehicle lineup. From a business standpoint the Pentastar 3.6L V-6 and its wide use in Chrysler Group Vehicles will eliminate V-6 engine component list. The current Pentastar 3.6L V-6 is expected in 13 different Chrysler group models, about 44% of Chrysler vehicles this year, and is helping the group meet CAFE regulations with sizable performance improvements over outgoing V-6's.
Performance varies slightly by application and vehicle but the Pentastar3.6-liter V-6 delivers around 300-HP and 260lb-ft. of torque while achieving around 20/30 mpg city/hwy. This represents a 30%-40% improvement in power, 8%-10% improvement in torque and best of all 15%-20% improvement in fuel efficiency. The engine delivers its torque well with 90% of its torque available from 1600 to 6400 rpm, so the increased power is on-demand.
Chrysler has been awarded a Ward's 10 Best Engines award for the Pentastar. The combination of refinement and versatility were driving factors in Ward's decision. It's a rare feat when both power and efficiency improve together and the Pentastar has done just that. What's more, as confirmed by Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler is working on other variants of the Pentastar which may include adding direct injection and small displacement versions. The Pentastar 3.6L V-6 is here to stay and with all that it offers in performance and efficiency now it will surely move Chrysler into the future.
