PARC and The Cleantech Open Partner To Accelerate Sustainable Technologies in the United States

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Cleantech Open, the world's largest cleantech accelerator, is partnering with PARC, a Xerox company, to promote the formation and development of cleantech startups. PARC is now a National Sponsor of the Cleantech Open, and plans to work closely with the Cleantech Open to create industry events, mentor entrepreneurs and startups, and provide technology expertise and prototyping support to selective startups. PARC joins other key sponsors of the Cleantech Open, including Global Partner, Chevron; National Education Partner, University of Phoenix; and National Premier Sponsor, Wells Fargo.

"Our partnership with the Cleantech Open is part of our commitment to providing open innovation to help solve some of the global problems we face today," said Stephen Hoover, CEO, PARC. "Our open innovation model combined with our unique position in the market—among VCs, entrepreneurs, large corporations, and academia—gives startups new business options, custom technology, IP, internal capabilities, and other innovation services to which they might not have access early on. The Cleantech Open's leading voice and vast reach in this sector, combined with our deep research in energy and water innovation, is a great match.  Together we will be able to help entrepreneurs and startups with problems and challenges they grapple with as they deliver breakthrough technology. We plan to replicate this type of partnership model with startup incubators across a variety of vertical sectors."

PARC started working on a variety of cleantech and energy innovations in 2002. The company's portfolio of innovations help drive down the cost of solar energy, create data centers that better manage energy demand, develop new technologies for water treatment, and improve batteries by using sensors, chemistry, and printing to improve performance and safety. PARC's goal is to apply its existing technical capabilities to support a variety of industries, from solar electricity to electric vehicles to portable power.

"The excellent research facilities and technical brain trust at PARC provide yet another major resource for our entrepreneurs," said Rex Northen, executive director of the Cleantech Open. "This is a remarkably exciting partnership between the world's largest cleantech accelerator and the world's leading research and innovation center—one that we expect to flourish over the years to come."

The Cleantech Open is the largest and most effective accelerator of its kind for clean and green entrepreneurs who want to change the world.
