"No Naked Women!" Says Wall Street Gallery to NYC Artist Marko Stout

NEW YORK, May 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A planned solo exhibition of the latest works of New York Artist Marko Stout at the World Trade Gallery in the financial district of New York City was abruptly canceled when gallery owner, Doug Smith discovered the artist's work included female nudes and a video of 2 women kissing.

New York City artist Marko Stout is best known for his "industrial pop" style and vibrant female prints, with his recent works featured in solo exhibitions at New York City's Emmanuel Fremin, SepiaEye and Artifact Galleries along with numerous international shows. The artist's latest works were planned to be exhibited in a solo exhibition at the World Trade Gallery in downtown Manhattan, opening on 06/08/18. However, when the collection was being reviewed for exhibition, gallery owners Doug Smith and his wife Jane Chun Smith discovered the artist's works contained female nudes along with images of 2 women kissing. The gallery then demanded Stout remove all nudity and offensive images from the collection prior to the scheduled exhibition.

The artist responded to the censorship demand by cancelling the exhibition and released a statement, "We regret the gallery owners find the female body and female love so objectionable and have pulled the exhibition from this art gallery".

While censorship of art is not new, it is certainly unusual a that modern art gallery in New York City would find works featuring images of the nude female body and of women kissing so offensive as to cancel a planned exhibition by a noted artist.

Marko Stout's latest solo exhibition has since been rescheduled to open this summer in a more progressive New York City gallery, where a complete uncensored version of the artist's work will be shown. The current exhibition is now titled, "Marko Stout Uncensored".
