New U.S. Executive Appointed to APEC Business Advisory Council

SEATTLE, Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The National Center for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (NCAPEC) welcomes the appointment of Ed Rapp, Group President and CFO of Caterpillar Inc., to represent the United States on the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). Mr. Rapp will join ABAC USA Member Bart Peterson, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Communications of Eli Lilly and Company.

Rapp currently serves as Group President and CFO of Caterpillar Inc., and has responsibility for the Finance Services Division, Human Services Division, Global Information Services Division, Global Purchasing Division and Financial Products Division, as well as Strategy & Business Development, Corporate Auditing and Investor Relations. Starting January 1, 2013 Mr. Rapp will move to Singapore to assume the position of Group President, Construction Industries, which includes executive responsibility for Caterpillar's Earthmoving, Excavation, Building Construction Products, Europe/South America Integrated Manufacturing Operations, China Operations and Construction & Infrastructure Divisions.

Since joining Caterpillar as a pricing analyst in 1979, Ed Rapp has held positions related to pricing, production scheduling, marketing, dealer development, manufacturing and product development. In 1987, he transferred to the North American Commercial Division where he held positions in Planning Support and as district manager of the San Francisco district. He later transferred to Johannesburg, South Africa, as area manager and then on to Geneva, Switzerland, where he was the department manager in Building Construction Products, and Europe Region Manager. In 2000, he became an Officer of Caterpillar as the vice president of the Europe-Africa-Middle East (EAME) Marketing Division. Prior to becoming a group president in 2007, he served as vice president of Caterpillar's Building Construction Products (BCP) Division, based in Cary, N.C.  

He has a B.A. in finance from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a graduate of the University of Illinois Executive Development program. He is a member of the board of directors of FMGlobal, Junior Achievement (J.A.) USA, and is also a member of the University of Missouri College of Business Strategic Development Board. 

ABAC, created by APEC Leaders in 1995, consists of up to three business representatives from each APEC economy chosen by their respective heads of state. ABAC meets quarterly to discuss policy recommendations, undertake activities to promote trade and investment, and reports directly to the APEC Leaders at their annual meeting each fall. The Council provides critical advice on a range of issues such as energy security and infrastructure development. The National Center for APEC is an organization supported by U.S. companies that generates and facilitates U.S. private and public sector engagement in the APEC process. From its offices in Seattle, the National Center serves as the secretariat for the U.S. ABAC representatives, works with U.S. companies to identify opportunities to advance U.S. priority issues within the APEC process, and advocates for U.S. interests with business counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region.
