New CMS's Condition of Participation (CoPs) Regulation and its Compliance Implications

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released revised Conditions of Participation (CoPs) 2014 final rule

DURHAM, N.C., May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The new CoPs regulation is expected to reform various Medicare regulations that are unnecessary, obsolete, or excessively burdensome on healthcare providers and suppliers. The new rule aims to increase the ability of healthcare professionals to allocate resources for improving patient care by eliminating unwanted requirements that hinder quality patient care. For instance, under the Final Rule, a multi-hospital system may now have a unified staff, subject to certain restrictions (which include a prerequisite that staff members of individually certified hospitals vote to participate in, or opt out of, the unified staff structure).
