Mission Viejo Company Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Amazing New MacBook Accessory, Iconic Disc

Revolutionary new product will allow Mac users to personalize computers without damaging the computer's aesthetic or leaving sticky residue like current sticker options

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Mission Viejo based Iconic Disc has launched a Kickstarter campaign (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iconicdisc/iconic-disc-your-macbooks-new-best-friend) to bring its new Iconic Disc MacBook accessory to a mass market.

Invented by entrepreneurs Tony Kern and Jeremiah Johnson, Iconic Disc is a thin, magnetic frame that fits seamlessly over the glowing backlight of an Apple computer.  This revolutionary new concept allows users to give their Mac a personal identity without damaging the Mac's clean look or aesthetics. The Iconic Disc frame is designed to hold an image printed on photo paper or a transparent film, just like a photo in a picture frame. When set in place, the image is then illuminated by the captivating glow of the Apple logo. It lets owners add their own style to their MacBook without the mess left by stickers or other adhesive products. Furthermore, should a user ever grow tired of one image, they can quickly swap it out for a picture of their pet, a shot from their last vacation, or a graphic of their company logo...the options are endless.

"We're both Mac users and, as creative thinkers, we love to personalize our Macs in a way that reflects our passions,"  said Kern.  "However, stickers are a hassle to remove and leave a nasty residue, and cases can be thick and bulky, hiding the natural beauty of the naked Mac.  We wanted to design a product that would complement Apple's clean design aesthetic, be non-damaging, easily interchangeable, and most of all, completely cool.  We believe we've achieved this goal with our Iconic Disc design and we look forward to introducing it to the millions of Mac users all over the world."

The inventers of Iconic Disc spared no expense in developing the product and chose only the best materials for manufacture. The main ring is machined out of aircraft grade aluminum, glass bead blasted, and anodized, just like the Macbook and neodymium rare earth magnets are press fit into the underside of the ring.  These magnets are attracted to the landing pads which are stamped from sheet steel, tumbled to a high shine and plated with a protective nickel coating. A strong, non-permanent 3M adhesive is used to secure them to your laptop.  Iconic Disc also features a scratch resistant acrylic lens that with a machined edge that snap fits perfectly into the main ring.  The final part that makes up a complete disc is the image layer.  It is suspended between the lens and ring and can be printed on photo paper or transparent film.

"Rome was not built in a day and neither was Iconic Disc,"  continued Johnson.  "We've devoted our nights and weekends, over the past 12 months, to creating and perfecting how Iconic Disc looks and functions.  Tony, who has 16 years of 3D modeling and design experience, used his skills and expertise to build our proof of concept models. We used a 3D program called Modo to create digital files for rapid prototyping.  We then took the rapid prototypes one step farther using traditional machinery and hand tools to create realistic prototypes.  It took dozens of these prototypes to come up with a perfect design.  With a product like this, every millimeter matters and we believe we have achieved the perfect little product to adorn your MacBook."

The Kickstarter campaign will be funded through May 11th, 2013 and can be found at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iconicdisc/iconic-disc-your-macbooks-new-best-friend.  Donors can choose from several different pledge levels and will receive various thank you gift packages specific to each level.
