ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Following an extensive national search, the Board of Directors of the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is pleased to announce that Ellie Hollander has been named President and Chief Executive Officer, effective February 11, 2013. Hollander comes to MOWAA from Good360 (formerly Gifts In Kind International), where she has been serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President of Business Development since 2010. Hollander succeeds Enid Borden who served as MOWAA's President and Chief Executive Officer for more than twenty years.
"Ellie brings a wealth of leadership experience and a well-rounded and fresh perspective to our mission of providing national leadership to end senior hunger," said Vinsen Faris, Chair of the MOWAA Board of Directors. "We could not have found a more well-suited, dynamic individual to lead our association."
Prior to her tenure at Good360, Hollander was an executive at AARP, serving twice as interim Associate Executive Director for membership and for eight years as Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer. Hollander's professional background also includes extensive experience in business and membership development, marketing and communications.
"Meals On Wheels not only delivers nutritious meals to more than one million food-insecure older adults each day, it also provides hope, optimism, and empowerment," said Hollander. "It's an amazing opportunity and a privilege to be part of a nationwide movement to end senior hunger in America once and for all."
The MOWAA network is comprised of individuals from local senior nutrition programs nationwide that provide daily meals to seniors, whether by delivering directly to their homes when their mobility is limited or by serving meals at congregate locations such as senior centers. Local nutrition providers employ thousands of professionals across the United States and are supported by an estimated 1.7 million volunteers.
"Beyond making a difference to the well-being of millions of those suffering from the silent epidemic called senior hunger, we plan to develop sustainable and scalable solutions that will strengthen the economy by promoting independence, reducing health care costs and improving financial security," said Hollander. "I will be actively seeking the participation of a wide range of critical partners to collaborate toward this end. The vision to end senior hunger by 2020 is bigger than any one organization but, collectively, we can make it happen."
