Keywords are the words customers use when they search for information. Companies have been using keywords in their content for some time now so that they're visible when their target audience searches for the information, product, and services they provide. However, keywords must be used effectively and appropriately in content or lose their effectiveness; this means using keywords naturally.

Keywords that sound awkward, appear as grammatical errors, or clearly have a sales purpose and no other value can wreak havoc on your marketing efforts. Natural infusion of keywords, thus, requires keywords to appear as regular words in the text. It should not be obvious that they are keywords.

To include keywords naturally in text, use the following tips:

1.    Optimize content around keywords. It's easier to make keywords appear naturally in text when the content is directly related to the keywords. For example, it would be easy to use the keyword "best sauce ingredients" in a post about the five best pizza joints in your area. Conversely, it would be difficult for that same keyword to appear naturally in a post about museums.

2.    Consider user intent. Not all keywords serve the same purpose. When consumer search the internet, they may search to acquire information, evaluate products, or make a purchase. Consider each keyword to determine how a consumer might use it, then craft content around that intent. For example, "how to change a lightbulb" is a keyword used by someone who wants information. Writing a how-to post using this keyword would make it easy to use that keyword naturally.

3.    Place keywords where they need to go. The structure of content is also important when it comes to natural placement of keywords. There are certain places were keywords need to go, and because of this, consumers have gotten used to seeing words and phrases in these locations. So, to create content with a natural look and feel, place keywords in titles and subheadings. It can also be helpful to place keywords in the first paragraph, if possible.

4.    Use keywords sparingly. The quickest way to make naturally infused keywords look unnatural is to use them too often. Use each keyword one to three times in content. If you need to use more keywords, that's fine, but don't over do it.
