According to an article published by the Olive Oil Times on June 23rd titled "Fatih Atli Wins 653rd Kirkpinar," more than 100 drums of oil were used in this year's Annual Kirkpinar oil wrestling tournament. Beginning in 1356, the Kirkpinar wrestling tournament has been held around the area of Edime, Turkey and involves a large weeklong competition where the Turkish gather together as a community. Although the festival includes more than just wrestling, by far the most striking thing about the tournament is the massive amount of oilve oil used by wrestlers.

Oil wrestling is a common sport in Western Europe and has been around for hundreds of years. The earliest known presence of the sport dates all the way back to 2650 BCE near Babylon. Olive oil is the main component of the sport, and it also has many other applications throughout the tournament, including being used in food being served in the tournament.
