Inground Pool Cover Company, LOOP-LOC, Discusses pH Levels and What They Mean

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Jan. 11 , 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Inground pool cover company that services New Jersey, LOOP-LOC, discusses pH levels and what they mean.

The pH level in your pool is one of the most important factors pertaining to the water. It is vital to test and adjust it on a weekly basis. The pH levels indicate acidity or alkalinity, and they are measured on a scale of 1 to 14—1 showing extreme acidity and 14 being extremely alkaline. A pH reading of 7.0 means the water is neutral, below 7.0 is acidic, and above 7.0 is alkaline. Pool owners that manage their pH levels properly can save a considerable time and money.

If the pH of your pool is too high, or alkaline, calcium deposits can form and build up on the walls of the swimming pool, as well as the pool equipment and plumbing. Chlorine becomes less effective to fight these scales, and the pool water can become cloudy. Swimmers can also experience dry, itchy skin and burning in the eyes and nose. When this happens, adjust the pool water with pH reducer.

When the pH level falls too low (acidic), the result is water that is corrosive. It will dissolve any metal pool equipment that it encounters. This acidic water can also dissolve the pool surface, causing it to be rougher and leading to long-term problems such as staining of the swimming pool surface and the previously mentioned skin and eye/nose issues. Again, chlorine becomes very ineffective, and the pool owner must add pH increaser.

The recommended pH levels for swimming pools is between 7.2 and 7.8. Swimming pool test kits, pH test trips, and digital pH testers are all effective pH testing methods.
