PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With our economy showing consistent, but slow signs of recovery, many of the Nation's leading employers are looking to add thousands of new workers. Fourteen industry leading companies agree that we should look to fill as many of the open positions as possible with the men and women who have worn the Nation's uniform and their spouses.
In an effort to connect the employers with the veterans and military spouses who are looking for work, Veteran Recruiting Services has launched VetFriendly which is an index of military friendly employers by industry, and that will also host nationwide virtual career fairs for the following industries over the next twelve months;
Government led by VA for Vets, Financial Services led by Citi, Technology, Retail led by Sears Holdings, Transportation led by Penske, Healthcare led by Aetna, Communications, Entertainment & Media, Energy led by Exelon, Manufacturing, Defense, Hospitality led by Intercontinental Hotels Group, and Food & Beverage led by PepsiCo.
The first industry specific virtual career fair will take place on February 27th from 1-4PM for veterans and military spouses with experience or an interest in Transportation & logistics. Led by Penske who have been longstanding supporters of our military and veteran community, and several other employers including; Waste Management, PepsiCo, Lowe's, Airgas, Philips, Department of Defense Civilian Expeditionary Workforce, Transportation Security Administration, and Union Pacific.
"Our company greatly benefits from the core values, outstanding work ethic and leadership skills of veterans," said Ken Hurley, Penske's senior vice president of human resources. "Their diverse insights and fresh perspectives have proven invaluable to our Penske team. We thank them for their years of service and dedication to protecting our country. "
The virtual career fairs hosted throughout the year by Veteran Recruiting Services have helped more than 15,000 veterans and military spouses secure meaningful employment with many of America's leading companies, and in addition to the dedicated virtual career fair days, the VRS environment is open and available 24/7/365 to allow active duty, guard/reservists, veterans, and military spouses the opportunity to; visit employer booths, view/apply for jobs, chat with fellow service members, and to engage with recruiters directly.
"The success of our virtual career fairs can be directly attributed to those employers who recognize, value, and respect the skills, training, and education that veterans and military spouses bring to the workforce. The industry specific virtual career fairs will be an outstanding way to bring together veterans, military spouses with the employers who are looking to hire them" Stated Kevin O'Brien Managing Partner Veteran Recruiting Services
