NEW YORK, June 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With next week's launch of New York Energy Week (NYEW), the industry's first-ever cross-sector collaboration, the New York City (NYC) energy industry is affirming its leading position in the growing U.S. energy economy. This "by the industry for the industry" event series will highlight New York's unique position as the epicenter of energy industry collaboration, and its position as the U.S.-energy-industry crossroads, where the elements of energy-related government, media, finance, and entrepreneurs all meet.
NYC is at the vanguard of forward-thinking pragmatic legislation that promotes innovation and addresses resilience and climate change. Most recently NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has personally endorsed NYEW, unveiled his "A Stronger More Resilient New York" initiative, a $20 billion plan to address climate change and energy resiliency. NYEW is also supported by key policy makers at the state, city, and federal level, including the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the New York State Governor's Office, the New York City Mayor's Office, and the U.S. Department of Energy. With more state and city government support than ever before, New York City has the potential, the passion and drive to become a driving force in U.S. energy innovation.
"New York has routinely led the way in smart investment and innovation, but we can do better. America is in a global race for clean energy, just as we were in the space race, post-Sputnik. We must compete to win," said Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20), a representative of the Capital Region of New York, who offered a special address to NYEW participants. "I want to see New York's pioneering spirit continue to win out and our state remain on the cutting edge of energy innovation. We can do this by remaining committed to researching and developing clean, sustainable and efficient sources of energy."
NYEW is an event series that features more than 20 events throughout the week. Among the events included on the NYEW Schedule are five sector-themed` breakfasts focused on solar financing, oil & gas, energy asset management, cleanweb, and the power industry, as well as headlining evening receptions and marquee events such as the NYEW Energy Data Jam hosted by Google, the NYEW Energy Entrepreneurship Reception, and the NYEW Research, Data and Media reception hosted by Tesla Motors. Also, other networking events and meetups will be held alongside the official New York Energy Week events from trade organization partners.
Founded by energy policy research and data company Energy Solutions Forum, in conjunction with a coalition of committed public- and private-sector energy professionals, NYEW was created to encourage cross-functional cooperation in the traditionally fragmented energy industry. The industry initiative is made possible by the participation and support of NYEW event hosts, including the New York Academy of Sciences, Citigroup, First Associates, CME Group, the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute, Associated Renewable, Tesla Motors, Hodgson Russ, Google, SXSW Eco, E.ON, the Climate Group, Chadbourne & Parke, the Pataki-Cahill Group, Urban Electric Power, the CUNY Energy Institute and DORMA, as well as NYEW sponsors, NYSERDA, Advent Software, Genscape, Loeb & Loeb, Advent Integrated, NYPA, Eneractive, Joule Assets, SunEdison, CEBIP, Energy Infotech NYC, SURGE and Breaking Energy.
