SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio will become the first Texas hotel and only one of 3 hotels in the U.S. to have a FlowRider® on its property, a welcomed addition to their already impressive 4-acre waterpark. This exciting new attraction simulates a "barrel-less" wave; compete with a sloped wave surface with 40,000 gallons of water being driven up at a rate of about 18,000 gallons per minute!
"This will become yet another staple of vacationing at the Hyatt Hill Country, just like the Ramblin' River, and will solidify our resort as the premier destination for families looking to travel to Texas." said general manager, Gino Caliendo. "The FlowRider® experience will be an amazing addition to our resort and while regional water parks may offer knee boarding we are thrilled to be the first location in Texas with a stand-up surfing option."
The FlowRider spans an impressive length of 54-feet and is 22-feet in width. The water depth is around 3-4 inches; it's easily adjustable to meet individual skills and ages. Hotel guests can choose to body board, kneeboard or do stand-up boarding. The FlowRider® will be heated seasonally and per the manufacturer's suggestions riders need to be 42 inches (3'5") to boogie board and 52 (4'3") to stand-up ride/surf, meaning Hyatt Hill Country guests of all ages can enjoy this adrenaline-packed thrill ride all year long.
"Flowboarding may resemble surfing, but it is really a combination of skateboarding, wakeboarding, boogie boarding, snowboarding and surfing. A perfect blend that will appeal to all board sport enthusiasts," said business development manager at Aquatic Development Group, developer of FlowRider®, Ray Lauenstein.
In addition to the FlowRider,® the resort is also adding a much anticipated 22' tower slide, perfect for children ages 5 and up. The addition of these enhancements offers more exciting options to the hotel's existing four-acre water park. Currently, the hotel has a 950-foot Ramblin' River, an activity pool equipped with water volley and basketball, an adults-only Texas-shaped pool, 2 hot tubs and a zero-entry kiddie wading pool.
"Families have consistently returned to Hyatt Hill Country for 19-years because of our incredible staff, exciting activities and amazing water features. Our guests will be excited with these additions as they only add to memories created here," Caliendo added.
The FlowRider® and slide area will be surrounded by an extensive deck with plenty of room for spectators; the space will be enhanced with the full-service "FlowBar," which will specialize in grilled foods, hand-crafted cocktails and locally brewed beers.
All the water pumped through the FlowRider® and slide will be recirculated; aligning with the hotel's pledge to conserve our precious resources. The slide and FlowRider® will be operational in time for Texas' Spring Break in 2013. As with the hotel's other amenities, FlowRider and slide access will only be available to registered, overnight guests and not open to the general public.
