LODI, N.J., Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- There have been two Mazda releases this year, both of which are offering fuel economies that are normally only seen in hybrids. In fact, the new 2014 Mazda CX-5 beats out hybrids when it comes to its unbelievably high 35 mpg highway. Seeing as the CX-5 is a crossover SUV, numbers this high are unexpected, but consumers aren't likely to complain.
The CX-5 drives like a sedan which makes it great for families. The engine in the Touring and Grand Touring is identical to that offered in the sportier 2014 Mazda6. The 2.5-liter SkyActiv engine is only a 4-cylinder but it can produce 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. With a high fuel rating and an engine identical to Mazda's midsize sedan, the crossover seems to lean more towards a sedan than an SUV, but that is not at all the case.
Consumers will enjoy the fact that the seating and storage capacity of the CX-5 is larger and more convenient than most crossover SUVs. The rear seatbacks are 40/20/40, offering a variety of options for seating or storage. When the seatbacks are up, the CX-5 can seat five adults comfortably. When they are folded down, 65.4 cubic feet of cargo carrying capacity becomes available. When compared to the average sedan trunk at 17 cubic feet, the CX-5 starts leaning more towards an SUV.
