PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Veteran Recruiting, the recognized leader of virtual career fairs for the military community, and dozens of America's best companies rally together to help veterans find meaningful employment in the January 21 virtual career fair.
The virtual career fairs have helped more than 41,000 veterans and military spouses secure employment since September 2011. Unlike a traditional career fair that requires the job seeker to travel to a physical location, the VR virtual career fair allows them to participate from anywhere with a computer and internet connection.
"The unemployment rate for veterans overall is and has always been lower than the national average, but for younger veterans, women, and military spouses, the unemployment rate is alarmingly higher. Through our virtual career fairs, and with the help of hundreds of America's leading employers, we know we can help tackle this problem" Stated Kevin O'Brien managing partner, Veteran Recruiting.
The virtual career fair, on January 21 includes a great lineup of companies such as; Aetna, Airgas, Aggregate Industries, Apple, Capital One, Citi, Comcast, Comerica Bank, Convergys, DSS Research, Exelon, Graybar, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Kellogg, Lowe's, Loyola Marymount University, Penske, Philips, Pfizer, The Mission Continues, TSA, Tyco, Union Pacific Railroad, Waste Management, WellPoint, Wells Fargo, Western & Southern Life, Xerox, and more.
"The challenge many businesses face when hiring veterans is not a lack of talent and drive, it is matching their military skills and experience to jobs here at home. At Capital One we pride ourselves on partnering with organizations like Veteran Recruiting to help veterans make that connection and successfully transition to the civilian workforce," said Ben Lamm, Vice President, Servicemember Affairs and Army veteran. "We know that the qualities that made these men and women outstanding assets in the military – the strong work ethic, rigorous discipline, the creativity to overcome obstacles – are precisely the kind of job-ready skills and qualities that can help Capital One – and any business – grow and succeed."
In addition to the virtual career fairs, Veteran Recruiting has also started the VetFriendly 50,000 Jobs Challenge in support of the White House Joining Forces initiative. As the name implies, the goal of the Challenge is to help at least 50,000 veterans and military spouses find employment by 2018. The companies who step up to the Challenge are included on the website, and can participate in industry specific virtual career fairs throughout the year. Since the program launched in April 2013, more than 14,000 have found employment.
"We are beyond proud to have a played a small role in helping more than 41,000 veterans find rewarding jobs in just 2 years, but it is the employer's we team with that deserve all the credit. They recruit and hire veterans for the skills, talents, and experience they bring to the table, and their business benefits from having such high caliber talent contributing to their company's success" Said O'Brien
The virtual career fairs are open to active duty servicemembers, guard/reservists, veterans, and military spouses, and can be accessed by visiting http://www.veteranrecruiting.com The VR virtual career fair is accessible anytime, and the employer booths are always accessible.
