Experience Grand Rapids Announces First-Ever Young Textile Art Challenge

More than $3,000 in QuiltWeek Awards Available

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Experience Grand Rapids has announced the inaugural 2014 Young Textile Art Challenge. The contest, hosted in conjunction with the American Quilter's Society (AQS) 2014 Grand Rapids QuiltWeek®, is open to artists ages 18-30. With more than $3,000 in prize money available, organizers hope the competition will encourage younger textile artists to enter the competition and attend the show. "Grand Rapids is a city that appeals to younger audiences and artists," says Janet Korn, Senior Vice President of Experience Grand Rapids. "This new textile art challenge provides a platform for inviting younger textile artists to enter and attend the AQS Quilt Week in August."

The online contest entry begins on April 1 and is open until June 6, 2014. Jurors will award a minimum of $2250 to the top three winning entries. An additional $1,000 will be awarded by votes of QuiltWeek attendees during Grand Rapids QuiltWeek, held August 20- 23, at DeVos Place.

Contest Specifications:

  • Entries may be submitted starting April 1 through the AQS website, www.americanquilter.com/ytachallenge 
  • Open to artists and students ages 18-30 (as of June 6, 2014)
  • Works must be original, completed in the last three years
  • Entry deadline is June 6, 2014
  • Winners will be announced at Grand Rapids QuiltWeek, August 20-23
