Emergency University, FAA Present Dramatic Results of Five-Year Cardiac Arrest Response Study at European Resuscitation Congress

Study Reveals Training Program, New EU Alert! Smartphone App Increased Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Response Rate from Industry Average of Two Percent to One Hundred Percent

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Emergency University, a developer of corporate emergency response programs, announced that Emergency University Medical Director Dr. Odelia Braun and FAA Employee Safety and Health Services Manager Tom Holloway, Ph.D. will present the results of their research on Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) response at the European Resuscitation Congress. The event will take place in Bilbao, Spain, May 15-17, 2014. As part of their research, Drs. Braun and Holloway developed training programs to address behavioral hurdles to executing an effective emergency response to an SCA.

The program was implemented over a five-year period nationwide at 177 sites to 45,000 employees. It involved the use of over 1,100 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and Emergency University's new EU Alert! smartphone application that alerts trained responders to the scene of a workplace emergency. In companies where the training program was implemented, the response rate to SCAs was 100 percent, compared to the national average of two percent. EU Alert! is part of Emergency University's existing WorkSafe™ Program.

"Statistically, the most likely person to discover a cardiac arrest victim is an untrained bystander. This smartphone application enables the bystander to immediately alert the facility's trained responders to pinpoint the exact location of the closest operational AED, and the victim," said Emergency University CEO Doron Braun. "This technology gives all personnel the ability to play a vital role in summoning help within the first few critical minutes after an SCA. EU Alert! is the 'missing link' in the chain of survival."

In addition to being presented at the prestigious ERC, the abstract by Drs. Braun and Holloway titled, "Incorporating Innovative Technologies and Addressing Behavioral Factors to Improve Sudden Cardiac Arrest ("SCA") Response," will be published in Resuscitation, the official journal of the European Resuscitation Council.
