DALLAS, Nov. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- EcoPhones, a rapidly growing national reverse logistics solutions provider for the electronics industry, today announced that EcoATM co-founder and industry visionary Seth Heine has joined EcoPhones as the Vice President of Global Business Development.
As a leader in the wireless industry, Seth has founded and developed multiple companies in the cell phone collection, recycling and reuse space; notably CollectiveGood (sold to FlipSwap in 2009) and ecoATM (sold to Outer Wall formerly Coin Star for $350 million in 2013).
"I'm joining EcoPhones at a very exciting and pivotal time. EcoPhones has the right team, the right vision, all the right environmental certifications, and a business model that is scaling at an accelerating pace. As an entrepreneur I'm right at home here,' stated Mr. Heine. EcoPhones recently purchased a 205,000 sq. ft. processing and data erasure facility located near the Galleria in Dallas, TX.
Initially, Mr. Heine will be focused on improving the technology tools and user experience for forward facing collection systems. "Seth continues to be a pioneering visionary. His innovative ideas on how to enhance and add value to the trade-in experience, whether for consumers, retailers, charity partners or enterprise clients, will most likely transform the industry yet again," according to Walter Engelbrecht, EcoPhones' Chief Operating Officer.
"Recycling models that rely exclusively on altruism, or conversely, exclusively on financial incentives, risk oversimplifying consumer behavior. That is to say 'one size does not fit all'. People are infinitely more complex than that… Just as devices have become far more complex, so have the reasons people recycle," explained Mr. Heine.
"There are more than 2 billion used mobile devices in the US market alone, billions more around the world yet most people still do not recycle their devices," according to Mr. Heine. "I am excited to be working on the levers that not only offer a much more interesting and compelling alternative to today's copycat trade-in sites but simultaneously guarantee consumers the utmost confidence that their data is deleted and that their devices are recycled in a responsible and transparent manner."
Mr. Heine is also known for his passionate environmentalism and has served on numerous Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) work groups and recorded the EPA's cell phone recycling pod-casts. "We face an enormous rising tide of devices that need to be recycled for their materials to relieve the pressures we are putting on the environment – or better yet - reused here or overseas," said Mr. Heine. "To truly increase trade-in rates you need to offer very compelling incentives – financial as well as other types. One thing that drew me to EcoPhones was its emphasis on remarketing…it appeals to my environmental sensibilities but also nourishes a sort of virtuous circle that allows EcoPhones to offer stronger financial trade-in incentives."
"There's tremendous opportunity in our industry. Many traditional processors and ITADs are under-serving their clients because they lack strong remarketing capabilities – being an efficient processor is only half of the reverse logistics equation – remarketing is just as important. While EcoPhones excels at both, Seth's global remarketing knowledge along with his environmental stewardship will only serve to enhance our already strong and responsible resale competency," said Sandy Schwartz, EcoPhones' Chief Business Development Officer.
"Our industry is ripe for roll up. Seth's proven ability to attract venture capital and strategic investors – especially within our space – will help us navigate the coming waves of consolidation," according to Ronnie Coleman, President and C.E.O. of EcoPhones.
EcoPhones is a national electronics recycling company that provides reverse logistics, testing, certified data erasure, recycling and global remarketing solutions for more than 55,000 OEMs, carriers, retailers, enterprise clients, charities, schools and churches throughout the world.
