Digital English Market in Asia Spikes to $2.7 Billion by 2022

According to a New Metaari Report, Revenues for Digital English Language Learning Products in Asia Pacific Reached $1.6 Billion in 2017

SEATTLE, Sept. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for Digital English Language Learning products in Asia Pacific is 10.7% and revenues will surge to $2.7 billion by 2022, up from the $1.6 billion reached in 2017, according to the new report by Metaari called "The 2017-2022 Asia Pacific Digital English Language Learning Market."

Forecasts for twenty-one Asia Pacific countries are included in this report: Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Metaari has revised our Asia Pacific forecasts for Digital English Language Learning products significantly upward from previous forecasts.

There are six major catalysts driving the current Digital English Language Learning market in Asia Pacific: the rollout of high-speed 5G networks over the forecast period, the strong consumer demand for English language learning products, digitization initiatives in the academic segments and large-scale adoption of learning technology in the schools (particularly in developing economies), new national language learning policies related to English instruction in the schools, and the booming tourism industry that is driving the demand for tourism English.

In 2017, China was the top buying country, followed by South Korea, Japan, and India. By 2022, Indonesia will be the fourth-largest buying country after China, South Korea, and Japan.

"In terms of growth rates, the highest growth rate for Digital English Language Learning in the region (and in the world) is in Sri Lanka at 49.8%, followed by Laos at 43.0%," comments Sam S. Adkins, CEO of Metaari and author of the report. "The next highest growth rates are in Myanmar (Burma), Mongolia, and Thailand at 41.4%, 37.2%, and 35.3%, respectively."

The highest growth rates are in countries that were once nascent (emerging) markets for digital English that were still generating relatively low revenues for suppliers as recently as 2013. These countries are now vibrant revenue opportunities for suppliers. Suppliers competing in these countries are experiencing significant revenue growth.

The Digital English Language Learning revenues in Asia Pacific are heavily concentrated in China. In 2017, China accounted for 61% of all revenues for Digital English Language Learning products in Asia Pacific. By 2022, China will still account for 54% of all revenues in the region. The report identifies the top revenues for suppliers competing in China.

The report is 170 pages and has 32 forecast tables and 5 figures. It can be purchased for $4,275.00 USD.

The supply-side analysis breaks out revenues for five learning technology types: packaged Self-paced eLearning (courseware), Collaboration-based Learning (live online classes and live online tutoring), Digital Reference-ware (eTextbooks, ePhrasebooks, audio books, and digital videos), Mobile Learning apps, and Mobile Learning Value-added Services (VAS). A supply-side analysis by these five product types is also provided for China.

"In 2017, mobile English language learning products generated the highest revenues for suppliers in Asia Pacific. Mobile language learning products in the form of educational apps and Mobile Learning VAS subscriptions are now the top selling types of Digital English Language Learning products in Asia Pacific," reports Adkins. "Mobile Learning VAS has the highest growth rate at 11.5%. The revenues for Mobile Learning VAS products are heavily concentrated in China and India, yet the growth rates are much higher in mobile-only countries."

Eleven countries out of the 21 countries analyzed in this report are now mobile-only countries with mobile devices being the primary device used to access the web. There is a near insatiable demand for early childhood learning games and language learning apps in every country in the region, but the demand is particularly high in the eleven mobile-only countries identified in this report.

Over 500 suppliers operating in specific countries in Asia Pacific are cited in this regional report to help international suppliers identify competitors and local partners, distributors, resellers, and potential M&A targets.
