Digital Camera Ratings; Nikon, Canon Announced by 10rate

10rate editors collaborate to look at digital cameras, lenses, tripods and bags from different categories to choose the best of each

ATLANTA, May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- It can be hard to decide which piece of camera gear is going to be the best. 10Rate editors Brian Jones and others have done the work of finding what gear will be the best for photographers of all levels. They looked at compact cameras, Nikon and Canon lenses, camera bags, and even tripods. After selecting the 10 best from each category, they assigned ratings. Criteria like durability, image quality, value vs price, and extra features were used to come up with the ratings. Editor's choice awards for Quality, Value, and Budget were given as well.

First, Brian Jones looked at compact digital cameras. The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX7K sits at the top of the Compact Digital Camera Reviews list with a rating of 9.5 and the Editor's Choice award for Quality. He said, "even though it only sports 10.5 megapixels, it produces high quality images with ease. The lens is sharp and fast, so shooting in low light is going to be a very useful feature for this camera. Full HD video recording with a stereo mic is an added bonus," in his review of the camera.

Every photographer knows that the lens they use determines how a photograph is going to turn out. The wrong lens at the wrong time could make getting the perfect picture very difficult. Editors looked at both Nikon and Canon lenses to cover all the DSLR bases. The Nikon 16-85mm DX zoom lens took the top spot on the Nikon DSLR Lens Reviews list. Reviewers noted a strong point as, "the ability to run the focal length all the way up to 85mm makes this a very useful lens for almost any type of photography. But you are really have to pay for that range in focal length." On the Canon side of the fence was the similar 15-85mm EF-S lens. It was awarded the top spot on the Canon Lens Ratings list because it is, "the best general-purpose lens out there you can find. The 15-85mm focal length will work for virtually any situation that does not require an insane amount of zooming power. 15mm is pretty wide and you'll be amazed at what you can do with it."

Two key pieces of camera gear were next. Tripods are essential for certain kinds of photography. They are excellent for portraits as well as situations where hand-holding the camera is impossible. Brian did the Tripod Ratings list and chose the Vanguard Alta Pro 263 as the best of the best. This one is "all about the angles. It can achieve some pretty impressive low angles due to its Multi-Angle Central Column system. This means the center column can be moved from 0 degrees to 180 degrees in different vertical and horizontal potions. It is a close up and macro photographer's dream," he said in the review.

Photographers that like to get out in the field really need a bag to carry all of their precious gear. Ways to travel with camera gear include hard cases, back packs, soft cases, holsters, and more. 10Rate reviewers chose the Kata DR-466 quick access backpack as the best entry on the Top 10 Camera Bags list. It was chosen because it "is one of the sturdiest, most versatile camera bags on the list." They also highlighted the amount of gear it can hold, space for a laptop, and the great value. conducts reviews in various product and services categories and publishes "Expert Top 10 Lists for Everything in your life."
