Customer MedCom to Provide Innovative Telemedicine with Acano

"Out of the box" thinking coupled with Acano's large scale, secure audio/video/web solution set to improve Danish healthcare.

LONDON and NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Today Acano announced Danish eHealth provider MedCom has purchased the Acano solution to improve patient care throughout Denmark. Healthcare providers are turning to Acano's unlimited coSpaces for patient/doctor communication wherever the patient is best served (read Healthcare coSpaces: Dare to Dream).

"MedCom is at the forefront of using videoconferencing technology to improve patient care. With our services we support different projects on various platforms. Acano enables us to integrate these technologies, including Microsoft Lync 2010 and 2013, traditional video conferencing, free trial bridging services, and WebRTC," explains Peder Illum of MedCom. "With Acano, we aim for making it possible to call directly from a videoconferencing client on one platform to another client on another platform.

"Acano furthermore gives us the possibility to think "out of the box" through an unlimited number of Acano coSpaces, which basically are virtual meeting rooms where health professionals can discuss treatment, but with another mindset that could allow us to involve the patient/citizen even more.

"Acano coSpaces could enable high quality communication between patients/citizens and doctors and municipalities using only web browsers on their own PCs, while still maintaining high security through encryption. It could even be possible for distant family members to visit hospitalized patients. Acano gives us a frame to implement this on a potentially very large scale," Illum concludes.

MedCom is a publicly funded, nonprofit cooperation, owned and financed by the Ministry of Health, Danish Regions and the Local Government Denmark. MedCom facilitates the cooperation between authorities, organizations and private firms linked to the Danish healthcare sector.

MedCom contributes to the development, testing, dissemination and quality assurance of electronic communication and information in the healthcare sector with a goal of supporting improved patient care. Since 2003, MedCom has been implementing innovative eHealth solutions to deliver safe and efficient access to healthcare information. In 2009, MedCom established VDX, a national hub to support video conferencing. From 2011 MedCom has been focusing on the politically established goals and milestones concerning cross-sectorial communication with a precise role as operating organization.

MedCom solves problems with a focus to support efficient performance and a gradual expansion of the national eHealth infrastructure, which is necessary for safe and coherent access to relevant data and communication across regions, municipalities, and general practitioners.

Additional applications for healthcare coSpaces include:

A surgeon evaluating trauma patients using video on an iPad from her home and then transferring to audio on the way to the hospital to prepare the medical team for surgery.

Mothers and fathers seeing and speaking to their premature babies in neonatal intensive care units from their own laptop from another floor, work or home.

Community doctors receiving expert consultations on patients.  With Acano, doctors using different a variety of technologies can join into calls together rapidly and easily.

Free Trial: Healthcare organizations are invited to trial coSpaces at www.acano.com, or email ask@acano.com.
