Custom Chess Set Manufacturer, The House of Staunton, Breaks Down Strategies Used in Chess

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Huntsville, ALChess supplies manufacturer, The House of Staunton, helps chess players learn the strategies needed to play chess.

A strategy is a plan. In chess, a strategy includes how, when, and where to move each chess piece in order to win the game. Whether you're new to playing or you're an experienced veteran, there's a strategy you can apply to improve your game. Here are a few that The House of Staunton has broken down:

Control the center. A solid opening strategy focuses on gaining control over the center of the chessboard. When your chessmen occupy the center of the board, they are able to move in several directions, and thus have excellent mobility. This helps you to execute other moves, both in preparation for and in reaction to, the moves of your opponent. To execute this move, slide the e- and d-pawn out two squares on their first moves so that the rest of your chessmen can begin their march toward the center.

Protect the King. Obviously, a smart strategy involves protecting the King because once the King is taken, the game is over. To protect the King, castle early in the game. When you castle, you'll need to move the King to the either side of the board by two spaces and usher your Rook to its new position on the opposite side of the King.

Play pieces from their best position. Learn where on the board each piece plays its best. In other words, your strategy should involve an understanding of where on the board each piece has maximum mobility to advance your game. You'll know if you're not following this strategy if you have to move the same piece twice as this means you're not moving other pieces into their ideal position as soon as possible. Any good strategy involves moving each piece into a position where they can defend and attack with as few limitations as possible.

Have a plan for middle game. Once you're comfortable with the rules of the game and have a general understanding of basic strategy, especially with regard to openings and endgames, it's time to develop a plan for the middle of the chess game. There are numerous options here, so try out a few and find what works for you. You'll be able to learn a lot from the results.
