LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., Aug. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Computer Society of India (CSI) has become the first organization to sign up for IEEE Computer Society's new Sister Society Associate Program, an initiative intended to encourage the global exchange and dissemination of technical information in support of the computing technology field.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will share technical articles on computing, cooperate on conferences held in India, and leverage associations between the organizations' elected officers. CSI members who join IEEE Computer Society's Sister Society Associate program will receive digital issues of three IEEE Computer Society magazines, as well as discounts on certification exams, training courses, and subscriptions to other magazines.
"This gives IEEE Computer Society members an opportunity to explore with our colleagues in India more unique, extensive, and exciting professional opportunities than ever before," said IEEE Computer Society Past-President Sorel Reisman, who negotiated the terms of the agreement.
"For the CSI, the MOU with IEEE Computer Society comes at a time when we are seeking better global integration for our members," said CSI President Satish Babu. "We see this agreement as a way to elevate the competencies of our members to global standards and thereby make them truly international professionals."
Formed in 1965, the CSI has been instrumental in guiding the Indian IT industry. Today, the CSI has 71 chapters in India, 418 student branches, and more than 90,000 members. The CSI's mission is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning, and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals, while simultaneously inspiring and nurturing new entrants into the industry.
The partnership is intended to encourage the exchange and dissemination of technical information, and to promote understanding and cooperation between the members of the CSI and IEEE Computer Society. The agreement contains provisions for computing professionals and students in India to become involved in both organizations.
Earlier this year, IEEE Computer Society signed a cooperative agreement with the Advanced Computing & Communications Society, an organization for IT professionals in India, to share technical information and work together in a variety of ways.
Through its Chennai, India-based Registered Education Provider, Purna Career Solutions, the Computer Society's education and training products are offered at a variety of Indian educational institutions. The Computer Society has two certification programs: Certified Software Development Associate for entry-level developers and Certified Software Development Professional for mid-level workers. IEEE also operates an office in Bangalore, India.
