Community partnership leads to $100,000 Habitat for Humanity home sponsorship

Valentine Capital Asset Management and the Morris Family partner to build home in Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley is honored to announce a special partnership resulting in the sponsorship of a Habitat home in Walnut Creek. Valentine Capital Asset Management, headed by John Valentine, is  a fee-only independent RIA based in the San Francisco Bay Area with more than a half billion in assets, has partnered with long-time client Dave Morris to sponsor a home in the community in which they live.

The duo has committed to a $100,000 sponsorship and has been volunteering hours to build a complete residence at Pleasant Creek Homes, a new ten-home development located near Ygnacio Valley Road across from the Walnut Creek BART station.

The partnership grew from the long-time support of Dave and Sally Morris who chose to invest in Habitat's Pleasant Creek Homes development as a tribute to the City of Walnut Creek for having provided a wonderful environment and great place to raise their family. Dave has contributed countless hours volunteering on Habitat for Humanity homes since 1995. Most recently, Dave can be found building weekly at the site.

As donors to Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley, Dave and Sally have introduced many of their friends and colleagues to the work of the organization, including John Valentine and his investment firm.

With a clear vision and enviable track record of giving back to the community, Valentine Capital has supported over 100 local non-profit organizations in the Bay Area with donations exceeding $600,000.

"It's only fair that every family be given an opportunity to live the American Dream with affordable housing," said John Valentine, Founder and Chief Investment Strategist.  "We realize the importance of giving back and are proud to have supported this project."

Alongside Dave Morris and community volunteers, Valentine Capital Asset Management will designate work days for staff to participate in construction and help complete the development by this summer.

"Habitat for Humanity is extremely grateful for the support of these two community leaders, said Janice Jensen, President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley. "It is unique partnerships like this that allow Habitat to succeed in our mission and develop affordable housing communities."

Each of the 10 single-family units at Pleasant Creek Homes is designed to be simple, modestly sized, and energy efficient.  The homes are certified by California's GreenPoint Rated system and are Energy Star compliant with solar panels, low-flow water fixtures, and constructed with durable, eco-friendly materials.

These homes will help address the housing challenges of hardworking families with limited incomes and at the same time develop safe, sustainable homes and stabilize the neighborhood. Habitat partner families selected to live in the homes contribute 500 hours of sweat equity building their homes with community volunteers.
