NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2013  /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- When a mainstream restaurant decides to put a vegetarian item on the menu, it's often a challenge and even an afterthought.  Rarely is it something the restaurant can boast about.

Taft Foodmasters has launched their retail version of what has been a top seller in mainstream restaurants: the vegetarian gyro.  "Our mission when we started was to make it easy for the restaurant chef to offer a vegetarian menu item while allowing the chef to put their own signature on it, their own spin," says Jessica Taft, CEO and developer of the vegetarian gyro and Taft Foodmasters.   It's a wheat-based plant protein called seitan {say-tahn} with zero cholesterol and 25 g of protein per 3 oz serving.  Seitan was not invented by Taft…just perfected with two popular seasoning profiles:  gyro (shawarma) and sausage.  Taft's lamb meat substitute seitan is the first of its kind.

Two of Taft's most recent maintstream restaurant customers are:  Double T Diners in Baltimore and Gyro-Mena in Chicago.  Some other mainstream restaurant customers are based in New York City:  Pita Grill, Spring Street Natural, Riverwalk Bar and Grill and Tian at the Riverbank.

Taft Foodmasters now launches their retail packaging for the vegetarian gyro and sausage seasoned seitan into supermarkets and health food stores.  Watching testimonial videos on their website, you can hear people confirm what Jessica has been saying:  You don't have to be a vegetarian to eat like one!   People from all walks of life enjoy the product, from every age, male and female.

Their proprietary process allows for artisan mass production of their seasoned seitan.  Their product is kosher and is lab certified non-gmo.
