BYkids "Think Before You Stereotpye" Public Service Announcement Calls All Of Us To Create Understanding Through Storytelling On U.N. International Day For Tolerance

"She is a terr…" illustrates our rush to judgement. "She is a terrific poet" illuminates our ability to empathize. Launching online and in life on Thursday, November 16, 2017 for the United Nations International Day for Tolerance.

NEW YORK, Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- BYkids, mentors teens around the world to share their lives on film. Films air on Public Television, America's most trusted news source, with supporting curricula distributed through PBS Learning Matters, Discovery Education and PenPal Schools. Each film reaches 100 million students and creates understanding through storytelling by enabling children around the world to understand complex global issues by walking a mile in someone else's shoes.

17-year-old Faiza Almontaser immigrated with her family to Brooklyn from Yemen, and made POET AGAINST PREJUDICE for BYkids. She faced vicious bullying because of her Islamic identity. Mentored by the legendary pioneer of direct cinema, Albert Maysles, Faiza shows us her courageous and inspiring journey from victim to activist.

"By hearing Faiza's story, she becomes your friend. This understanding breeds empathy and tolerance. If we listen to the stories of others, we become more connected and compassionate" says Holly Carter, BYkids Founder and Executive Director. "We wanted to spark conversation around Islamophobia, bullying, race and gender so made this powerful PSA."

The simple 28-second  film shows Faiza Almontaser with the words, "SHE IS A TERR…" While we wait for the sentence to be typed, we finish it in our minds. We are corrected. SHE IS A TERRIFIC POET.
