Bicycle Street Inn & Suites To Open In May 2013 On Mackinac Island, Michigan

First new hotel construction project on the island in more than a decade

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich., Nov. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Construction is well underway for a beautiful new hotel on one of Michigan's most popular and historic tourism destinations. Spring fever will be epitomized in May 2013 with the exciting Grand Opening of Bicycle Street Inn & Suites on Mackinac Island, Michigan.

Balcony suites with panoramic downtown and water views
Superbly located on Main Street in the center of downtown, Bicycle Street Inn & Suites will feature 36 air conditioned guest rooms, including 30 spacious suites ranging up to an astonishing 700 square feet. Most suites have walk-out balconies with panoramic views overlooking the Straits of Mackinac, or interior island views. Perfect for larger families, the suites sleep up to six persons in one and two bedded configurations with premium bedding, a separate living room with sofa/sleeper, generously sized bathrooms (most with walk-in showers), fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and two flat panel televisions. Hotel guests will enjoy a complimentary deluxe continental breakfast daily.

First floor open concept retail shops
A central skylit atrium radiates natural light to the first floor lobby and shops, where merchants will offer an assortment of food, candy and other goods in a stylish retail court. Accentuated by 15 ft high ceilings and attractive railings to separate shops, the accessible vibe will allow visitors to flow easily between retailers. "The main level will be an open, European market with few walls, widely spaced iron gates, and muraled ceilings replicating the feeling of being outdoors", says Melanie Libby, Co-Developer and General Manager for Bicycle Street Inn & Suites. Ms. Libby adds, "It will be a whole new concept for Mackinac Island." 21 Speed Grill & Greens, a healthy eatery, and Sanders Candy will serve as anchors for the Shoppes at Bicycle Street Inn & Suites.

A heightened travel experience
Bicycle Street Inn & Suites is designed to aesthetically fuse with the island's centuries old Victorian architecture, and promises to set a new standard for guest comfort, style and service. Ira Green, Developer of Bicycle Street Inn & Suites says "We're creating a building that's reminiscent of an earlier era and merging it with state-of-the-art amenities to meet the needs of today's travelers. Bicycle Street Inn & Suites will stand the test of time because we are bringing visitors that heightened experience they're looking for." Indeed, when Bicycle Street Inn & Suites opens, it plans to be long remembered as the place "where suite dreams come true".

Mackinac Island Overview:
Mackinac Island (mak-in-aw) is an island and resort area covering 3.8 square miles in land area, part of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was home to a Native American settlement before European exploration began in the 17th century. It served a strategic position amidst the commerce of the Great Lakes fur trade. This led to the establishment of Fort Mackinac on the island by the British during the American Revolutionary War. It was the scene of two battles during the War of 1812.

In the late 19th century, Mackinac Island became a popular tourist attraction and summer colony. Much of the island has undergone extensive historical preservation and restoration; as a result, the entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It is well known for its numerous cultural events, its wide variety of architectural styles, its fudge, and its ban on almost all motor vehicles. More than 80 percent of the island is preserved as Mackinac Island State Park.[1]
