Bannigan Communications Launches "What in the World am I Doing Here?" Multi-Cultural Blog

Cultural Coaching Experts Engage International Community

NEW YORK and HONG KONG, March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Bannigan Communications LLC, a full-service communications agency specializing in multi-country Public Relations and Executive Cultural Coaching, announces the launch of its' new blog, "What in the World am I Doing Here?", found at

The blog is filled with reflections on living, working and thriving abroad, with cultural anecdotes about expats, their families and the local and international communities in which they dwell.

Helen Bannigan, CEO of Bannigan Communications and the creative driver behind the blog, has been an expat for 25 years, lived in 6 different countries, and worked in over 30 countries around the world.

Her professional experience has included working as a linguistic specialist in France, co-founding a telecoms company and working with the American Embassy in Portugal; serving as European project manager for a British PR firm in Spain; and running international PR campaigns for global communications companies from Italy and Hong Kong.

Bannigan has served the international business community in many ways: as a founding member of GRACE, a non-profit raising awareness of corporate philanthropy in Europe; arranging worldwide pro-bono PR representation for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP); and serving on the boards of the Royal British Club of Portugal, the Professional Women's Association of Lisbon, the American Club of Lisbon, the American Club of Rome, and as President of the Association of American Clubs. She was selected to be part of a global project to highlight American women who have assimilated into the culture of their host nations and inspired others around them along the way, Americans Beyond Borders.

Bannigan believes answering the question "What in the World am I Doing Here?" is an obvious imperative for expats that many overlook, and social media is a great place to engage. "How can we be more present, more impactful, more inspiring, more effective and efficient, more authentically and unapologetically us?" she asks. It comes down to what gives life meaning, from being a mindful parent, to living according to our values, to being present to all those in our lives, with something of value to offer. "It's developing our professional career, serving our clients and sharing our talents in a sustainable way, leaving a positive impact on profits, people and the planet."

Bannigan shares her experiences and those of like-minded expats and invites the international community to engage in the conversation. With topics ranging from doing business in China, the Hindu Festival of Colors, Peaceful Parenting Abroad, and the linguistics of Portuguese and Inuit languages (one of the three branches of the Eskimo-Aleut language family, in case you were wondering) – there is clearly something for everyone.
