Helen Bannigan, CEO of Bannigan Communications and the creative driver behind the blog, has been an expat for 25 years, lived in 6 different countries, and worked in over 30 countries around the world.
Her professional experience has included working as a linguistic specialist in France, co-founding a telecoms company and working with the American Embassy in Portugal; serving as European project manager for a British PR firm in Spain; and running international PR campaigns for global communications companies from Italy and Hong Kong.
Bannigan has served the international business community in many ways: as a founding member of GRACE, a non-profit raising awareness of corporate philanthropy in Europe; arranging worldwide pro-bono PR representation for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP); and serving on the boards of the Royal British Club of Portugal, the Professional Women's Association of Lisbon, the American Club of Lisbon, the American Club of Rome, and as President of the Association of American Clubs. She was selected to be part of a global project to highlight American women who have assimilated into the culture of their host nations and inspired others around them along the way, Americans Beyond Borders.
Bannigan believes answering the question "What in the World am I Doing Here?" is an obvious imperative for expats that many overlook, and social media is a great place to engage.
