TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass., Feb. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Balefire Labs, Inc (www.BalefireLabs.com)-- provider of online, PreK-12, educational app reviews for teachers and parents-- announced today the launch of search by Common Core State Standard (CCSS).
"We're pleased to introduce the ability to search for educational apps according to Common Core State Standard today," said Karen L. Mahon, Ed.D., President and Founder of Balefire Labs. "Teachers and administrators have been asking for this feature since we launched our service last August and today we're pleased to respond to that request."
The purpose of the Common Core State Standards is to "provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn," according to the Common Core State Standards Initiative website (http://www.corestandards.org). The Common Core State Standards have been adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia. "We know that many teachers need digital resources that are not only high quality, but also that align to Common Core," says Mahon. "As far as we know, we are the only educational app review service offering this capability and we think it will help teachers and school personnel save considerable time when looking for aligned content."
"As we launch this service today we have full coverage of the Math standards for grades K-8," Mahon adds. "As we go forward, our goal is to get better and better coverage of all of the standards so that every teacher's needs are met." Balefire Labs has published more than 1500 app reviews to date for PreK-12, across Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Apps that earn a letter grade of A-C, according to the Balefire Labs research-based criteria, are aligned to CCSS by Balefire Labs staff. At least 100 new app reviews are added to the website every month.
