American Readers Get First Look at SEMMANT, Provocative New Novel by Acclaimed Russian Author

Spurning offers from publishers in his native Russia, multi-award-nominated author Vadim Babenko launches his American literary career with SEMMANT, a 21st-century tale of lust, greed, and affection that explores the scope of human emotion from a truly unique point of view

BROOKFIELD, Wis., March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A brilliant scientist creates a brilliant robot. Working together, they beat the stock market. But which one will survive the battle for love?

How does a man of genius find his place in the modern world? What happens when an artificial mind becomes involved in a genuine human drama? What is the true price of free will?

These and other questions are explored, with shocking results, in SEMMANT, the new novel by Vadim Babenko, an award-nominated Russian author who turned down lucrative offers from Russian publishers to publish the book in the US on his own terms. SEMMANT focuses on the clash between the cruelty of the real world and the eternal principles of humanity. Only these principles are protected by a being not entirely human…

"This is very modern fiction and my intention is to reach an audience open to new concepts and ideas," says Babenko. "That's why I chose to publish it myself and in English rather than waste time dealing with the Russian publishing industry. Going the traditional route would obviously have been much easier, but I wanted to take control and publish my book my way."

This is not Babenko's first dramatic leap of faith. Twenty years ago, with only a few hundred dollars in his pocket, he left his native Moscow and came to the US where, along with his Russian partner, he co-founded a high-tech company in Maryland. Eight years later, the company, InforMax, Inc., went public on Nasdaq. But at the pinnacle of that success, Babenko, to the astonishment of everybody, turned his back on the corporate world to pursue his love of writing and has never looked back. He moved to Europe and published five books including two novels, THE BLACK PELICAN and A SIMPLE SOUL, both nominated for Russia's most prestigious literary awards. And now he is returning to his entrepreneurial roots by becoming his own publisher and publishing the world's first edition of SEMMANT.

SEMMANT will be available in eBook format from Amazon for Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Apple's iBooks, and other digital publishers in April, 2013 and in paperback and hardback from Amazon.comBarnes & Noble, and other online and retail bookstores in May, 2013.
