PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Veteran Recruiting, the recognized leader of virtual career fairs for the military community, reports on the early success of the VetFriendly 50,000 Jobs Challenge. Since May of 2013, more than 9,000 veterans and military spouses have been hired by the employers who have signed on to the Challenge.
In May, Veteran Recruiting launched the VetFriendly Challenge in support of the White House Joining Forces initiative that was started by the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden in 2011. As the name implies, the challenge aims to help at least 50,000 veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment by the end of 2018.
"After having the honor of meeting the First Lady and Dr. Biden at the White House in April, and hearing of some of the great programs in place to help veterans and military spouses find employment, we knew there was much more we could do. Employers who sign up for the challenge are able to have their company advertised on www.vetfriendly.com which is a veteran friendly employer index, by industry. Each company has their logo displayed, and a direct link to the career section of their website. Each company also received a VetFriendly crest that can be displayed on their website, and a pledge certificate.
The list of companies already supporting the Challenge include; AECOM, Aetna, Airgas, Ally, Ball Corporation, Citi, Comerica Bank, Convergys, CVS Caremark, DaVita, Duke Energy, Engility Corporation, Enterprise Holdings, Exelon, Graybar, Horizon, Hormel Foods, LabCorp, Nash Finch, Office Depot, Penske, Pfizer, Philips, Progressive, Safeway, Sears Holdings, Spectra Energy, Staples, TeleTech, Department of Treasury, United Health Group, Verizon, Waste Management, Wells Fargo, Western & Southern Life Insurance, and Xerox
