2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2013 Ford Edge battle across class boundaries at Ingram Park CDJ

The SUV and compact classes are offering up their best vehicles in the battle of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2013 Ford Edge

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Not many vehicles dare to go up against an SUV as legendary as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the 2013 Ford Edge is up for the challenge. Available at Ingram Park CDJ, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to build a legacy that no other vehicle in its class has been able to surpass. The new Edge is going across class lines to see if a crossover can live up to the reputation the most awarded SUV in history has established.

The unsurpassed Jeep Grand Cherokee is put to the challenge by other vehicles in its class, but it is rare for a crossover to attempt the same. The 2013 Ford Edge is a strong and reliable crossover that works diligently to keep up with the Grand Cherokee. When paired with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 turbocharged engine, the Edge earns a best-in-class EPA-estimated 30 mpg highway, the same as the Jeep. Turning out up to 240 horsepower, the Ford also matches the Grand Cherokee's powerful performance.

Producing 270 pound-feet of torque, the Edge can haul up to 3,500 pounds. While impressive in its own class, the Edge's performance starts to fall behind the Grand Cherokee when it comes to strength. When powered by the available 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee pumps out up to 420 lb.-ft. of torque to tow up to 7,400 pounds when properly equipped. Because of the engine's efficient construction, the Jeep also uses its EPA-estimated 30 mpg highway to travel up to a class-leading 730 miles.

The 2013 Ford Edge is a strong balance of versatility, strength and intelligence, but it ultimately is not a match for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee despite its capabilities and valiant effort. The Grand Cherokee has a lifetime of accomplishments on its side, as well as the Trail Rated badge and acknowledgment as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." When a vehicle can take on any terrain regardless of weather conditions as effortlessly and confidently as the Grand Cherokee, it is difficult to find it a worthy opponent.

The Edge put up a good fight, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to win the hearts and garages of drivers in San Antonio. Put the award-winning SUV's talents to work with a test drive at Ingram Park CDJ today.
