SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- When the Honda Ridgeline was released seven years ago, it was unlike any other truck in the light duty pickup segment. The most differentiating feature was the slanted truck bed sides which have now become synonymous with the Ridgeline. Although the stylish and versatile truck will make an appearance later this year, production on the Honda Ridgeline will be halted sometime next year as the pickup gets a complete redesign. It is expected to make a return for the 2016 model year. The redesign is will likely focus on the powertrain which could potentially make the Ridgeline a heavier-duty truck.
As the powertrain upgrade is being saved for the redesign, the 2014 Honda Ridgeline still holds the 3.5-liter V-6 that was found in last year's model. Producing 250 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, the powerful Ridgeline can tow a maximum 5,000 pounds. Improving on-road and towing performance is a Variable Torque Management 4-wheel drive system which efficiently distributes torque among the four wheels. It not only increases efficiency, but safety as well by providing more traction in slippery conditions.
Consumers are likely to enjoy that the versatile truck bed that can only be found in the Ridgeline is making a return in the 2014 model. That includes the dual-action tailgate which drops vertically like a normal tailgate, but also swings open like a door. The swinging door makes it easier to access the industry-first lockable in-bed trunk which has a capacity of 8.5 cubic feet. The durable trunk, joins a rearview camera as a standard feature which can only be found in the Honda Ridgeline.
Pricing for the 2014 Honda Ridgeline has been released, but the truck is not yet available for sale. It's likely to follow the 2014 Honda Pilot which officially went on sale last week.
